Separator Instructions
Orthodontic spacers, also called separators, are small rubber bands placed between teeth to create space for bands that will be placed later for braces.
Care Instructions:
- Diet: Avoid sticky foods as they can pull the spacers out.
- Brushing: Brush your teeth as usual, including the teeth with spacers.
- Flossing: Avoid flossing between teeth where the spacers are located.
- Pain: Some soreness is normal, especially in the first few days. Over-the-counter pain relievers like Ibuprofen (Advil) can help reduce the discomfort.
- Spacers Falling Out: If a spacer falls out, there is no need to worry. Just call or text us to see if they need to be replaced. Generally speaking, if it is more than 3-4 days before your next procedure we may need to replace them.
Additional Tips:
- Check Daily: Check the spacers daily to ensure they haven’t fallen out.
- Don’t Worry About Swallowing: If you swallow a spacer, it won’t cause any harm.
- Don’t Pick at Spacers: Avoid using your fingers, toothpicks, or tongue to manipulate the spacers.
